Child Sexual Abuse Story Book:

Brave Little Panda Preview

In 2009, the Chinese Community Health Resource Center (CCHRC), the Asian Alliance Domestic Violence (AAADV), and its affiliated community organization partners jointly developed the child sexual abuse Booklet- Brave Little Panda, as a tool to raise awareness of Child Sexual Abuse in the Chinese immigrant community in San Francisco.   The storybook targets Asian children ages 5-8 and their families to better understand and prevent child sexual abuse. One study indicated the relationship of alleged offender to child were 35% a known person, 24% relative, and 19% parent. Thus, this storybook is targeted towards children, and can be used as a tool for educators, parents, and children to more comfortably discuss this sensitive issue.

Summary of the Brave Little Panda.

Little Panda was a happy panda, and always looked forward to play-dates/sleep-overs at her Cousin Panda’s house.  One night, Cousin Panda sexually abused Little Panda, and told her not to tell anyone if she wanted to remain best friends. Little Panda did not know what to do until Teacher Owl taught Little Panda the difference between “Appropriate Touch” and “Inappropriate Touch”.  Finally, Little Panda bravely told someone she trusted- her parents.

The Brave Little Panda received great feedback from our readers and community leaders, alike.  To continue the efforts of child sexual abuse awareness and prevention, CCHRC and AAADV aim to publish the Brave Little Panda as a hard-cover children’s storybook.

The adaptation of the Brave Little Panda into Chinese/English, Korean/English, Vietnamese/English and Tagalog/English are available for preview at www.cchrchealth.org, under media education.  A printed prototype of the Chinese/English adaptation of the Brave Little Panda is available while supply lasts.   Should you be interested to help the Brave Little Panda to get published, to obtain a copy of the printed Chinese/English adaptation of the storybook or have any questions, please contact Joyce Cheng, MS, Program Coordinator/Research Associate at 该E-mail地址已受到防止垃圾邮件机器人的保护,您必须启用浏览器的Java Script才能看到。
